ٱلضَّآلِّينَaḍ-ḍāllīnMadd lāzim · six counts
Madd — the dots count the harakāt. Madd is lengthening a letter of madd (ا و ي) when the conditions are met. Natural madd (aṣlī, also called ṭabīʿī) is about two ḥarakāt. Connected or separate madd, madd lāzim, and others stretch longer — your muqriʾ decides the school and the count. Tilmidh shows where madd appears in the Uthmani tajweed text; the mic checks the word identity, not a stopwatch on six ḥarakāt.

In ar-raḥmān you meet a madd shape that beginners often clip. In Ikhlāṣ, Allāh and aḥad teach you not to invent extra length where there is none, and not to starve length where the text marks it. Recite one word, wait until it is accepted, continue.

How long is a natural madd?
Two ḥarakāt. It is the reference unit: every other duration is counted in multiples of it, up to six ḥarakāt for madd lāzim.
What is the difference between muttaṣil and munfaṣil?
Both last 4 to 5 ḥarakāt in Ḥafṣ, but muttaṣil has its hamza in the same word as the letter of madd, while munfaṣil has its hamza at the start of the next word.
Does Tilmidh check the length of my madd?
No. The mic checks that the word you said is the right one, not the exact length of the lengthening. Train the length by ear, then have your recitation confirmed by a muqriʾ — Tilmidh is a repetition tool, not a certification.
