About Tilmidh

Tilmidh is a free recitation trainer. This page explains where the content on this site comes from, how it is grounded, and where the limits are. On a religious subject those three questions come before any product description.

The riwāya used

All content follows riwāya Ḥafṣ ʿan ʿĀṣim, the reading of the vast majority of printed mushafs and the one most people learn outside the Maghreb. The madd durations given on this site — two counts for the natural madd, four to five for muttaṣil and munfaṣil, six for lāzim — belong to that riwāya. They differ in others, notably Warsh. If you learn by a different reading, the explanations still hold but the durations do not.

Where the Quranic text comes from

The text shown in the trainer and on the sura pages comes from the Quran.com API, in Uthmani script with tajwid annotations. It is neither retyped nor edited: recolouring it by hand would introduce errors where there were none. That is also why the colours in the app match what you see on Quran.com rather than some in-house convention.

How the rules pages are written

Each rule is written from the classical categories of tajwid: makhārij and ṣifāt for articulation, the four cases of nūn sākina and tanwīn, the three of mīm sākina, the types of madd, the five letters of qalqalah. Examples are taken from short suras most people already know by heart, so that you can verify them immediately. No page asserts a position on which the schools differ without saying so.

What this tool is not

It is not an ijazah. It is not a scholarly certification. It is not a substitute for a teacher. Speech recognition checks the consonantal skeleton of a word; it does not measure the length of your madd, the heaviness of your emphatic letters, or the quality of your ghunnah. Those three need a human ear, and no software available today replaces one. A service promising otherwise is overselling what the technology can do.

Reporting an error

If you find a tajwid error on any page, it should be corrected — that matters more than any ranking consideration. The contact channel is the one listed on the privacy page. Include the page address and the passage concerned: a verifiable correction is handled first.
